High-precision data collection on municipal vehicles

As part of a model project of the Thuringian Climate Agency, our mobile climate stations have been in use since 2019. These are energy-autonomous climate measurement platforms, which are installed on municipal vehicles (urban waste collection) as well as public transport (streetcars).

Air temperature and humidity are recorded with high quality meteorological measurement technology, special telemetry loggers and a special firmware during the vehicle movement and stored together with highly accurate position data time-synchronized in our databases. Thanks to innovative energy management and the combination of suitable hardware, the measuring devices can be operated all year round independently of the on-board power supply.

With comparatively little setup effort, the moving sensor nodes generate measurement points with a very high spatial density. In Jena, these data points were used to generate high-resolution temperature maps for various applications.
