Solar-powered smart sensors: uninterrupted data, anytime

All sensor nodes are designed as self-sufficient telemetry devices. The required electrical power is entirely generated by solar cells which charge a high-capacity battery. An innovative energy management system ensures that measurements continue even in extended periods of low daylight. At full power, the meteorological data is transmitted in near real time. If power is scarce, the devices transmit their data less frequently to save power. The measuring devices are ideally mounted on lamp posts or similar poles, and we provide special mounting equipment for this purpose.

The temperature and humidity measurements are obtained by a multi-sensor probe, which is built into a passive radiation shield. It contains multiple independent sensors to improve accuracy, detect aging and partial failure. With passive radiation shield only, the temperature measured is usually too high. The multi-sensor design which also features additional exposed sensors can minimize this effect by applying proprietary correction algorithms. To ensure quality, all devices are individually calibrated and traced back to corresponding reference measuring devices.

High-res meteorological data, seamless updates

Once activated, the devices collect meteorological samples at one minute resolution with high fidelity. The raw data is transmitted to our SENSOR·HUB Cloud servers via common cellular networks via NB-IoT, LTE-M or GSM and do not require any external networking equipment. All calibration steps are applied a posteriori in the Cloud. This way we never lose the raw data and can even update calibration parameters on previously collected data. In the rare case of extended maintenance requirements, firmware updates can be carried out over the mobile network and do not require any personnel in the field.

The calibrated data is served by our SENSOR·HUB web services that feature a wide range of capabilities, including standards-based REST APIs, GIS Services and interactive applications for data exploration and visualization. We also offer additional services for integration with customer-specific IT systems and databases.
